About David MacKinnon

David grew up in Easton Massachusetts. He played 4 years of varsity baseball and soccer before continuing his career in both sports at the University of Hartford. MacKinnon broke the all time hits record at Hartford and was named the America East Player of the year in 2016. He was also named First Team academic All American for the 2016 and 2017 seasons. He was drafted by the Los Angeles Angels in the 32nd round, 955th overall. He made his Major League Debut on June 18th, 2022. Following the conclusion of the 2022 season David elected free agency and signed with the Seibu Lions of the NPB for the 2023 season. In 2024, MacKinnon decided to accept a contract playing in the KBO for the Samsung Lions and made the All Star team. He played winter ball in Puerto Rico from November 2024 to February 2025 in an effort to make a comeback to stateside baseball. His team, the Mayaguez Indios, won the championship. Unfortunately, he did not sign a contract before the 2025 season and has decided to continue his coaching career. He has coached over 125 athletes throughout his career and hopes to be able to have a greater reach and impact through remote training. In 2019, MacKinnon tore his ACL two weeks into the season. He was at a crossroads. He battled the decision to potentially retire or to rehab and fully dive into the biomechanics of the swing and how the body and the sequence of the swing works. His wife Jordan, convinced him to give it one more go. He studied some of the best hitters in the big leagues, specifically Mike Trout and Vlad Guerrero Jr. He analyzed why their swings were so much more consistent and powerful than his swing. He realized the key to becoming more consistent and more powerful was to find a way to hold his posture and create a lot of ground force. This discovery jump started his rise to the big leagues. During his rehab, he increased his exit velocity by 8MPH in 6 months which helped him increase his homers, doubles, slugging and OPS which in turn got him his call to The Show.
